Home Tutor positions

Classroom Teachers is delighted to work alongside two London councils providing home tutors for pupils who are unable to attend mainstream or SEN schools

Are you a qualified teacher looking for a role outside of the classroom?

Classroom Teachers is delighted to be working with two London Borough councils, working with them in order to help pupils who are unable to attend school for a variety of reasons. These are typically due to: medical needs or mobility issues, social anxiety, particular complex needs or are pupils who have been excluded.

We have a record number of tutors working for us at the moment but we are always looking for more. All of our tutors are qualified teachers, holding either QTS or QTLS and many are extremely experienced. We have tutors currently doing MAs or SENCO qualifications, as well as experienced SLT members and Heads of Department. This type of work either suits their new schedules or allows them to take up a new challenge away from the classroom.

These roles have fast turnaround times — you will usually be speaking to the guardian of the pupil with 24 hours of us receiving the EHCP from the council and very often meet the pupil the following day, with the tuition starting shortly thereafter. This initial meeting with the pupil and guardian allows you to make your own assessment of the pupils learning levels but also will allow you to timetable when the tuition will take place (typically there will be 15 hours of tuition a week). For example, we currently have tutors that do mornings only across the week and others that do 5 hours a day for three days.

In order to start these positions you will need to be on the DBS update service. As such, if you come to register for this type of work, please be aware you may need to wait for a new DBS to come back before you can start.

As the tuition is at the pupils homes, it is vital that you are able to travel around and ideally will be a driver. We currently work with Lambeth, Croydon and Newham councils so living or being able to travel around these boroughs in essential.

If you are interested in this work, please email michael@classroomteachers.co.uk or call me on 020 7636 0600. I look forward to hearing from you.
