DBSs cost us £44. So we ask for £44. Simple

The cost of an application for Classroom is £44. That is how much the DBS charge us in order to process the form.

I have been told that some organisations will claim that there is an admin fee involved, that of the person checking the evidence and the postage of the application form to the DBS. Classroom do these for free. You should not be paying for our admin. However, even if you want to include this, charging a £7.50 per application fee (or more!) seems excessive. It is like those booking fees you have to pay when booking tickets online.

Once we have processed your DBS, you need to register it on the update service in order to use it with other organisations. That currently costs £13 per year. I have spoken with candidates who have not been told about this service. Here is the link to register your DBS, although you only have 19 days from the date of the DBS to do this: https://secure.crbonline.gov.uk/crsc/apply?execution=e1s1

In conclusion, we want to treat you like an adult. DBSs are a vital part of working with children. But they should not be a way for others to make money. Classroom is never going to repay the cost of a DBS after a certain amount of days simply to tie you in to working just for us. We are not going to put admin fees on something you have to do to go out to work.

It is why I work at Classroom. We may not be the biggest but we treat people the way we would want to be treated. To me that seems simple.
